Jake is only two years old, but he has already experienced the kind of neglect no dog should ever know. Somewhere along the way, the people who were supposed to care for him gave up. Maybe it was because he tested positive for heartworms. Maybe it was because he was overweight. Maybe it was because he wasn’t neutered and needed medical care. Whatever the reason, Jake was abandoned when he needed help the most.
When we first met Jake, it was obvious he hadn’t had the life he deserved. Heartworm disease is serious and requires expensive treatment. Being overweight put even more strain on his little body, and he had clearly missed out on basic veterinary care.
Sadly, cases like Jake’s are often the ones that rescues turn away from because the medical costs add up quickly. But when Jake looked at us, we saw something else.We saw a sweet, gentle Frenchie who just wanted someone to love him.
Despite everything he had been through, Jake’s spirit was still intact. His tail wagged, his eyes lit up when someone talked to him, and he soaked up every bit of kindness like he had been waiting his whole life for it.
Dogs like Jake don’t understand why they were abandoned. They don’t hold grudges or dwell on the past. They simply move forward with love and trust, grateful for the smallest acts of care. Now Jake is safe. He will receive the heartworm treatment he desperately needs, he will be neutered, and we will help him get to a healthy weight. None of it is cheap or easy, but he is worth every bit of effort.Watching Jake settle in and realize he is finally safe is something that reminds us why we do this work.
The neglected ones, the forgotten ones, the ones others give up on — they deserve a chance too.Jake may have been abandoned, but his story doesn’t end there. His story now is about healing, kindness, and people who refuse to give up on him.And if his constant kisses and wagging tail are any indication, Jake knows he was finally saved. 🐾
Jakes medical care is stacking up, if you can contribute to helping us with all his medical needs, we would so appreciate it.
